Government of Tamil Nadu

The Government of Tamil Nadu administers one of India's most industrialised states, contributing significantly to national output in manufacturing, automotive, electronics and IT. Its Industries and MSME departments run an active state startup ecosystem, led by StartupTN, the Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Mission.

StartupTN operates under the Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Policy and offers founders a single-window platform. It runs district-level startup hubs, sector-specific innovation programmes, and separate tracks for women, rural and student entrepreneurs. Funding support includes the Tamil Nadu Startup Seed Grant Fund (TANSEED), which provides competitive grants of up to ₹10 lakh to early-stage startups chosen through periodic cohorts, along with the Emerging Sector Seed Fund and Fund of Funds commitments that channel capital into AIFs investing in state-based startups. The state also provides incubation and infrastructure through its incubator network, co-working hubs and academic partnerships, plus reimbursements and incentives for patents, marketing and global event participation.

Tamil Nadu's focus areas are deeptech, advanced manufacturing, EVs, electronics, SaaS, agritech, fintech, healthtech and social-impact innovation, drawing on the state's engineering and industrial base. DPIIT-recognised startups registered in Tamil Nadu are eligible, with specific tracks and relaxed criteria for women-led, rural and student ventures. Founders based in Tamil Nadu, or willing to operate from there, who seek non-dilutive seed grants (TANSEED), incubation and ecosystem support should register with StartupTN and track its open calls on the state portal at tn.gov.in.
