Government of Tamil Nadu

The Government of Tamil Nadu is the state government of one of India’s most industrialised regions, contributing significantly to national output in manufacturing, automotive, electronics, and IT. Through its Industries and MSME departments, it has developed a substantial state startup ecosystem, coordinated by StartupTN (the Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Mission).

StartupTN operates under the Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Policy, offering a single-window platform for founders. Its activities include district-level startup hubs, sector-specific innovation programmes, and dedicated tracks for women, rural, and student entrepreneurs.

Support available through the organisation includes the Tamil Nadu Startup Seed Grant Fund (TANSEED), which provides competitive grant funding of up to ₹10 lakh for early-stage startups selected through periodic cohorts. The Emerging Sector Seed Fund and Fund of Funds commitments direct capital into AIFs that invest in state-based startups. Incubation and infrastructure are provided through the state incubator network, co-working hubs, and partnerships with academic incubators. Reimbursements and incentives are offered for patents, marketing, and participation in global events.

Tamil Nadu prioritises deeptech, advanced manufacturing, EVs, electronics, SaaS, agritech, fintech, healthtech, and social-impact innovation, drawing on its engineering and industrial base. Eligibility is open to DPIIT-recognised and Tamil Nadu-registered startups, with specific tracks and relaxed criteria for women-led, rural, and student ventures. Founders based in or willing to operate from Tamil Nadu who seek non-dilutive seed grants (TANSEED), incubation, and ecosystem support should register with StartupTN and monitor its open calls via the state portal: tn.gov.in.
