The Ministry of Food Processing Industries funds India's food sector through PMFME and PLISFPI schemes.

About Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI)

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), established in 1988, serves as the Government of India's nodal ministry for the food-processing sector. Based in New Delhi, it formulates policy and administers capital-subsidy and incentive programmes for entrepreneurs, FPOs, SHGs and enterprises. The ministry's work connects agriculture with industry and consumers, supporting employment and value addition across the supply chain.

MoFPI operates several schemes, including the PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME), which offers a 35% credit-linked capital subsidy up to ₹10 lakh per unit, seed capital for SHG members, and branding support. The PLISFPI, a ₹10,900 crore Production Linked Incentive Scheme, targets ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook foods, processed fruits and vegetables, marine products, mozzarella, and innovative or organic SME products. The PM Kisan SAMPADA Yojana funds mega food parks, cold chains, agro-processing clusters and food-testing laboratories.

The ministry also supports food-tech and processing startups through grant-in-aid, capital subsidies and incubation via designated centres and NIFTEM institutes. These schemes are largely non-dilutive and credit-linked. Individual entrepreneurs, micro-enterprises, FPOs, cooperatives, SHGs and companies processing agricultural, horticultural, dairy, marine and allied produce may apply, with criteria varying by scheme. Founders in food processing, agritech and packaged foods should review open schemes at mofpi.gov.in.
