About this scheme

Under Clause 14.1(i) of the Industrial and Investment Policy of Assam, 2019, units engaged in manufacturing and in the specified services are eligible for a power subsidy of **Rs 2.00 per unit of electricity consumed**. The subsidy runs for five years, counted from the date commercial production begins.

Two ceilings apply. The benefit is limited to **Rs 50 lakh per annum**, and the total received over the period cannot go beyond 100% of the investment made in plant and machinery. Whichever of the two limits is reached first decides the cut-off.

Eligibility is tied to consumption on an APDCL (Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd) connection. Electricity drawn through open access, captive generation or any other source does not qualify.

How applications are assessed

There is no competitive selection involved. Before any reimbursement is released, the department checks the unit's APDCL consumption records, the date on which commercial production began, and the amount invested in plant and machinery. The payment is then made subject to the annual and cumulative ceilings.
