About this scheme
The Land/Built-Up Area Rebate Scheme was introduced in 2018 as part of the Information Technology Policy Schemes of the Department of Information Technology, Government of Goa. Under this scheme, a land or built-up area rebate is extended to the IT industry in Goa, with the objective of encouraging growth and investment in the sector.
Both new and existing IT units can apply. The support takes the form of a one-time financial incentive towards acquiring real estate for IT operations. By lowering capital expenditure for IT businesses, the scheme seeks to make Goa a more attractive destination for technology companies.
The rebate applies specifically to two purposes: buying land on which IT office space is to be created, or directly purchasing built-up office space for IT operations within the state. Through this programme, IT units are encouraged to set up or expand their presence in Goa, which in turn contributes to local employment and economic development.

Frequently asked questions
What is the purpose of the Land/Built-Up Area Rebate Scheme?
The scheme offers the IT industry in Goa a one-time rebate, either for buying land to build IT office space or for buying ready built-up office space for IT operations, with the aim of drawing investment and encouraging growth in the state's IT sector.
Who is eligible to apply for this scheme?
Proprietorship firms, private and public limited companies, registered partnership firms, and limited liability partnerships with IT operations in Goa qualify, whether newly set up or already running. Udyog Aadhaar registration is compulsory as well.
What is the maximum rebate I can receive?
A unit may claim either a rebate of up to ₹1.5 crore on land purchased or up to ₹1 crore on built-up office space purchased, but not both.
Are there any specific requirements regarding employees?
Yes. The unit must maintain direct employment proportionate to its built-up area, allowing up to 80 sq ft per employee, with those employees having served on the rolls for at least 12 months; further incentives depend on the proportion of Goan-origin or Goan-graduate staff.
How is the rebate disbursed?
Eligible companies receive the rebate in three tranches, paid after whichever falls later: the Commercial Operation Date or the date of policy notification. At the close of each installment period, units are assessed to confirm they still qualify.
Can existing units claim rebates for past transactions?
Yes. Units already in operation can claim rebates on transactions completed within three years before the policy was notified, while new units may claim rebates only on transactions made after that notification.
