Scheme for Assistance to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME): Assistance for Patent Registration

The Industries and Mines Department, Government of Gujarat, runs the Scheme for Assistance to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME). It came into force on 7 August 2020 and remains valid until 6 August 2025. The scheme targets the state's MSME sector, which contributes to employment, GDP and exports. Through financial support, it seeks to help entrepreneurs build micro, small and medium enterprises that can compete internationally.

One component of the scheme, Assistance for Patent Registration, meets part of the cost of securing intellectual property. It is open to individual innovators as well as legal entities pursuing patent registration, and is intended to encourage product and process innovation in Gujarat. By covering a substantial share of patent-related expenditure, the component lowers the financial hurdle innovators face and helps them protect their intellectual assets, which matters for business growth and market differentiation.

- **Step 1 (Registration):** Go to the Investor Facilitation Portal (IFP) and select "New Investor Registration" to open the registration form. - **Step 2:** Complete every mandatory field in the registration form, then select "Submit." - **Step 3:** Confirm your email ID by opening the link delivered to the email address you registered. - **Step 4:** After confirmation, your registration on the portal is complete. - **Step 5 (Post-Registration):** Go back to the Investor Facilitation Portal (IFP) and select "Login." - **Step 6:** Provide your registered email address and password to reach your account. - **Step 7:** Select the "Login" button. - **Step 8:** Fill in all the details required and upload the mandatory documents relating to your business and the patent to finish the reimbursement application.

The Industries and Mines Department, Gujarat, screens each application for patent registration assistance. Its assessment centres on whether the applicant and the patent satisfy every listed eligibility condition — registration within the policy period and submission of the reimbursement claim on time included.

Where the paperwork checks out and the guidelines are met, the reimbursement is released in two instalments, tied respectively to patent publication and patent certification.
