About this scheme

The Tribal Development Department, Government of Gujarat, runs the Mukhyamantri Nahri Kendra scheme, which works to build economic self-reliance among tribal women. It does this by helping women set up and run centres called Nahri Kendras, which serve as livelihood ventures. These centres concentrate on selling traditional tribal dishes alongside various home-made products, a focus that feeds directly into higher incomes and better living standards for those who run them.

Financial support under the scheme follows a hybrid model, mixing a grant with a debt component so that the burden on first-time entrepreneurs stays low. This structure lets tribal women move into self-employment without needing heavy upfront capital, and it lets them turn traditional skills and local products into commercial activity. By working specifically in tribal areas, the programme targets the socio-economic difficulties those communities face, supporting inclusive growth and strengthening a key section of the population.

How applications are assessed

The Gujarat Tribal Development Corporation (GTDC) screens applications to confirm that applicants meet the eligibility criteria — identity, tribal status, place of residence, and the viability of the proposed Nahri Kendra project. Applications that clear this stage are assessed for completeness and conformity with the scheme guidelines.

The source does not describe multiple rounds or committee reviews. A formal assessment nonetheless decides whether the applicant and the project are suitable for financial assistance.
