About this scheme

Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), the Department of Fisheries provides funding towards input costs for the first crop raised in newly built brackish-water ponds and tanks. This corresponds to item 1.9 of the scheme's activity list.

The unit cost is benchmarked at ₹6.00 lakh per hectare, which covers seed, feed and other production inputs. For a general beneficiary, government assistance works out to ₹2.40 lakh per hectare; for an SC/ST/Women beneficiary, it is ₹3.60 lakh per hectare. Support is one-time and applies to the first crop alone, and is usually claimed alongside the pond-construction activity.

Proposals must be submitted to the State/UT Fisheries Department.

How applications are assessed

State and UT Fisheries Departments check each proposal against the activity norms and unit costs laid down under PMMSY. Those that clear the check are ranked by priority within the outlay fixed in the approved Annual Action Plan, after which the proposals go forward for sanction. Assistance is released only once the asset created has been physically verified.
