About this scheme

Under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), the Department of Fisheries meets the input cost of the first crop raised in newly built freshwater ponds and tanks. This covers composite fish culture, scampi, pangasius, tilapia and comparable systems, as listed at item 1.5 of the scheme's activity list.

The benchmarked unit cost is ₹4.00 lakh per hectare, which takes in seed, feed and other production inputs. Assistance from the government works out to ₹1.60 lakh per hectare for a general beneficiary, and ₹2.40 lakh per hectare where the beneficiary belongs to SC/ST or is a woman. Support is one-time, meant for the initial crop only, and does not extend to recurring operating costs. It is claimed together with the pond-construction activity.

Proposals are filed with the State/UT Fisheries Department.
