PMMSY Marine Finfish Nursery

The Department of Fisheries, through the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), funds marine finfish nurseries. This activity appears at item 2.3 in the scheme's mariculture activity list and covers the rearing stage that falls between hatchery seed and cage grow-out.

A unit cost of ₹15.00 lakh serves as the benchmark. Against this, a general beneficiary receives ₹6.00 lakh in government assistance, while an SC/ST/Women beneficiary receives ₹9.00 lakh. Support is capped at one unit, which must have a production capacity of 2 lakh fingerlings a year and occupy a minimum area of 500 sqm.

Applications go through the State/UT Fisheries Department.

1. Draft a proposal for a nursery covering a minimum of 500 sqm, with a capacity of 2 lakh fingerlings annually, at a unit cost of ₹15.00 lakh. 2. File the proposal with your District or State Fisheries Officer under PMMSY. 3. Enclose documents establishing the site and area, particulars of the seed source, and a category certificate if you are claiming the higher rate. 4. The State Fisheries Department appraises and sanctions the proposal under the Annual Action Plan. 5. Assistance is released once the nursery has been verified.

State and UT Fisheries Departments assess proposals for conformity with PMMSY activity norms and unit costs. Those that qualify are ranked by priority within the outlay set out in the approved Annual Action Plan, then passed on for sanction. Assistance is released only after the asset created has been physically verified.
