About this scheme

The Department of Fisheries, through the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), funds the setting up of small marine finfish hatcheries. This falls under item 2.1 of the scheme's mariculture activity list. Such hatcheries produce the seed that open-sea cage farming and coastal grow-out farming rely on.

Each hatchery carries a benchmarked unit cost of ₹50.00 lakh. Against this, government assistance stands at ₹20.00 lakh for a general beneficiary and ₹30.00 lakh for a beneficiary belonging to SC/ST/Women categories. The promoter bears the remaining amount.

Applications route through the State/UT Fisheries Department, and approval happens within the state's Annual Action Plan.
