Punjab Mega Project Power Tariff

Under Punjab's Industrial and Business Development Policy 2022, new Mega Projects qualify for a special power tariff of Rs. 5.50 per KVAh. This rate applies for four years, counted from the date the permanent power connection is released.

For energy-intensive plants, electricity tariff is a recurring cost that outweighs most one-time concessions. The benefit therefore grows with the load factor rather than with the size of capital investment.

Since the four-year window is pegged to the permanent connection date, the timing of that connection merits planning in parallel with commissioning.

1. Secure approval for the project as a Mega Project in accordance with the Industrial and Business Development Policy 2022. 2. Complete registration on the Invest Punjab Business First portal, then submit an application for the variable power tariff. 3. Provide the Mega Project approval along with the date on which the permanent power connection was released. 4. The unit's power billing then reflects the concessional tariff.
