About this scheme
The Sikhligara Community Development Scheme is run by the Minorities Welfare Department, Government of Karnataka, with the Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation handling implementation. Its purpose is to build economic strength within the Sikhligara community, which is largely based in Karnataka and has long depended on ironware welding and fabrication for its livelihood.
Members of the community face considerable economic difficulty. To address the need for lasting self-reliance, the scheme extends financial assistance so that beneficiaries can set up micro-enterprises of their own or purchase commercial vehicles. This widens their sources of income and lifts their economic position.
The scheme works as a base of support for first-generation entrepreneurs and self-employed people from this marginalised group, helping them move away from subsistence living towards steadier and more rewarding business activity. By directing attention to communities that need focused intervention to clear socio-economic hurdles, the programme reflects the government's aim of inclusive growth and fuller economic participation.
