Subsidy for Asset Creation for Intellectual Property: Patent Registration

The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, has launched the 'Subsidy for Asset Creation for Intellectual Property: Patent Registration' scheme. Through this scheme, MSMEs in the state are offered financial support to create and register intellectual property, whether in India or abroad.

The scheme is intended to lower the cost of patenting for small and medium-sized enterprises, and in doing so to encourage invention and technological advancement. It treats intellectual property as a key differentiator in the present market and aims to strengthen the competitiveness of MSMEs.

By extending this financial assistance, the Government of Tamil Nadu seeks to develop the state's innovation ecosystem, help MSMEs protect their creations, and support economic growth and job creation in the region.

- **Step 1: Registration**: Go to the official website and select 'Login / Registration'. Enter the required details — Name, Date of Birth, Aadhaar Number, Email ID and Mobile Number. Set a password that meets the stated criteria, complete the captcha, and select 'Register'. - **Step 2: Login**: Open the Login Page and select 'Login'. Enter the credentials sent to your registered Email ID and Mobile Number. - **Step 3: Form Filling**: Once logged in, hover over 'Schemes' on the top ribbon and select the relevant scheme from the dropdown. On the page that opens, hover over 'Apply Online' on the top ribbon and select 'New Application' from the dropdown. Complete every mandatory field in the Application Form, review the details entered, accept the terms and conditions, declaration and privacy policy, then select 'Proceed'. Note the reference number shown on screen and select 'Close'. - **Step 4: Upload Documents**: Hover over 'Schemes' on the top ribbon and select 'Upload Documents' from the dropdown. On the next page, enter the Application ID and select 'Submit'. Upload every mandatory document in the prescribed format and size. Once uploaded, select 'View' to confirm the documents are correct. - **Step 5: Submission**: Tick all the checkboxes displayed at the bottom of the screen and select 'Submit Application'. A message confirming submission of the online application to GM/DIC / RJD will arrive on your mobile phone. - **(Optional) Step 6: Track Application Status**: You can check your application status online through the tracking link provided. The portal may also send updates on your application status by email or SMS.

Applications are filed online and handled by the GM/DIC or RJD. During screening, the details provided and the documents uploaded are checked against the scheme's eligibility criteria. Claims of up to ₹1,00,000 may be settled without documents, which suggests a simpler route for smaller amounts, whereas higher subsidy sums are subject to complete document verification. Approval and disbursement follow only once the patent registration and the related costs have been successfully validated.
