About this scheme

Under the National Livestock Mission’s entrepreneurship development component, the Centre provides 50% of the project cost for a new poultry unit—covering parent farms, hatcheries, and brooder-cum-mother unit operations—through a one-time capital subsidy, capped at Rs. 25 lakh per unit.

This subsidy is available to individuals, Self Help Groups, Farmer Producer Organisations, Farmer Cooperatives, Joint Liability Groups, and Section 8 companies. It is among the few central schemes where a first-time livestock entrepreneur and a formal producer company can apply through the same channel. The remaining project cost must be met by the applicant, typically via own contribution and a bank term loan, with the subsidy released against the approved project.

Applications are submitted on the NLM portal, hosted by Udyami Mitra. The State Implementing Agency appraises the project proposal before it is forwarded to the central approval committee.
