Under the National Livestock Mission, the small ruminant component supports breed-development units in the sheep and goat sector. The central government contributes up to 50% of the capital cost as a subsidy, capped at Rs. 50 lakh, disbursed in two equal instalments.
The subsidy ceiling rises with unit size: Rs. 10 lakh for 100 females plus 5 males, Rs. 20 lakh for 200 females plus 10 males, Rs. 30 lakh for 300 females plus 15 males, Rs. 40 lakh for 400 females plus 20 males, and Rs. 50 lakh for 500 females plus 25 males.
