Patent Assistance

The Patent Assistance programme, introduced under the Madhya Pradesh Startup Policy 2022, supports innovation and intellectual property protection for new enterprises in the state. The Department of MSME, Government of Madhya Pradesh, administers the scheme as part of its broader role in policy formulation and resource delivery for micro, small, and medium enterprises, including startups. This work contributes to economic growth and employment generation through entrepreneurship in Madhya Pradesh.

Eligible startups can receive reimbursement for expenses tied to obtaining intellectual property rights, up to ₹5,00,000 (Five Lakh Indian Rupees) per startup. Covered costs include attorney fees for legal advice and drafting, official filing fees charged by patent offices, and other statutory charges arising during the patent application process. Assistance applies to both domestic patent filings in India and international applications submitted under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).

The funding aims to encourage innovation, help startups protect new products and processes, and build a culture of intellectual property creation in Madhya Pradesh. By reducing the financial burden of patenting, the government seeks to create a more secure environment for startups to invest in research and development, speed up the commercialisation of new technologies, and safeguard their innovations from infringement. This support is intended to strengthen the competitive entrepreneurial landscape and attract investment and talent to the state.

- Applications must be submitted online via the official MP Startup portal. - Applicants need to provide several documents, including a valid DPIIT recognition certificate, official patent filing receipts or the final patent grant certificate, itemised invoices from patent attorneys or agents, and complete bank details for direct transfer of reimbursement funds. - The reimbursement process begins after the initial patent filing or, preferably, once the patent has been granted, so that financial support corresponds with key stages of the IP protection process. All payments are made strictly according to the current policy norms and procedures set by the Department of MSME, after a full verification of documents and claims.

Applications are submitted online via the official MP Startup portal, along with patent documentation and attorney invoices. Each application is assessed for eligibility under the Madhya Pradesh Startup Policy 2022. Startups that are approved receive reimbursement of patent filing costs as outlined in the policy.
